David

Meet David, Dublin.

David works in aviation, and so often spends weeks at a time abroad.

But he still needs a base back in Ireland to return to. Hosting allows David the flexibility to stay in his home whenever he needs it, and to make money when he’s not.

I haven’t had to do that much work other than keep my calendar updated. You get the odd query from a guest that needs my input but that’s really about it.

Q&A

What did you do with your flat before Houst?

“I didn’t do anything with it. It used to just sit empty whilst I was away with work or on holiday. The flat is in a really good location near to the centre of Dublin, so it’s great to see the space being used for the benefit of others.”

Has the reality of hosting differed to your expectations?

“I didn’t comprehend the size of the market. I knew Dublin attracted tourists but my flat has consistently had over 90% occupancy. I’ve earned more than €15,000 in under a year, despite being in my home myself at times, which is above my expectations.”

Do you use the host dashboard?

“The dashboard is very convenient - it’s a one-stop shop for all your important information regarding your property, the latest reviews, cleaning bills and income received. Being in control of my calendar is great too. Once I know when I’ll be on the road I can easily open it for bookings.”
